Equisetum arvense

The evil Horsetail/Pipeweed/Marestail, whatever you may call it had been rearing its ugly head in the potato bed. We pulled back the black plastic last week to find a field of it poking its little heads through the soil. Its a case of digging as much out as we can before planting in the bed and we’ve also been told that they don’t like competition so hopefully the potato foliage will keep them down a bit.

It was a great night for digging tonight after work, very stress relieving in the warm sun. Dug over the potato plot again and pulled out more roots. Must persevere without getting too demoralised.

Rebel Action

Been down there again a couple of times and still no potatoes! Time to take rebel action, muster the troops and get out the bolt croppers! Stay tuned citizens!

Frustrating

Phoned the council dude today to find out how to get onto the allotment and which plot it actually is. Fat lot of use he was!

Basically the current allotmenteers down there changed the locks on the gates so the council has no keys. I have to speak to another allotment holder to sort out a key and also to find out which is my plot as the council dude didnt know. Been down a few times now and still not seen a soul although there is plenty growing. Will go down again Sat and Sun for another try.

Just pissed me off a bit that the council take your rent and get you to sign the lease so that their allotment quota is up then leave you to sort the rest out yourself.

Oh well.
